21 st Century Gifted 21st_Centruy_Kid.jpg

What will the role be of Gifted Education in the 21st Century. This is a question I have been asking myself as I teach gifted students in a Junior High setting. The students are identified in grade school and go through a weekly 1 hour pull out session. When they start the Middle School the pullout session becomes an elective and they spend 4 days in the classroom. In Junior High it is also an elective for the identified students. With funding for schools disappearing the fear of gifted education disappearing has become a worry. I feel that Gifted Education is under the same umbrella as learning disabilities and we should be helping these students as well.

My vision for Gifted education has always been a Project Based Learning/ Technology setting with the students guiding their own learning and I am just the facilitator to help them when necessary. Students learn by many modalities and this is one way for a student to produce a product by working in what works best for them and succeed. With all the testing that schools must do a lot of the creativity and problem solving has been taken out of the curriculum. This leaves a gifted student always wanting the right answer and never going beyond the box to try something different or to learn something different. My hope is to help these students realize it is okay to be creative and a problem solver. They will need both skills when the graduate from college and work in their first job!

This wiki will be many of the different resources that I have used or would like to use.
